When COVID-19 disrupted traditional office operations, Murray City Country Coast (MCCC) needed to quickly adapt to a remote work model. Otto IT stepped in to migrate their systems to the cloud, redesign their digital environment for hybrid work, and uncover significant cost savings by eliminating outdated internet contracts. The result was a flexible and future-ready IT setup that enabled staff to work efficiently from anywhere, all while cutting monthly IT costs in half.
The Problem
MCCC had just finished setting up a brand-new office space. Everything was ready for staff to move in and get to work, then the pandemic hit. Staff were suddenly working from home, but the systems they relied on were still tied to the office. There was no real plan in place for remote access, and the infrastructure simply wasn’t designed for it.
The Consequences
Without the right tools or access, staff couldn’t do their jobs effectively. MCCC’s mission depends on smooth, reliable operations. With their systems acessible only from the office and their team working remotely, that mission became harder to deliver.
The Solution
Otto IT was brought in to help MCCC make the shift. The first step was migrating key applications to the cloud so staff could access them from anywhere. This allowed for a more flexible and resilient setup. We also redesigned their Standard Operating Environment to work seamlessly with cloud-based software, making it easier for staff to work from home or the office without any friction. The goal wasn’t just to survive the pandemic, but to build a long-term hybrid work model that would support the organisation well into the future.
The Challenges
Designing a hybrid work environment that actually works takes time. There were a lot of factors to consider, from legacy systems to user experience. Every decision had to balance flexibility, security, and ease of use. It was a collaborative process, with plenty of testing and adjustments along the way.
Project Outcome – The Benefits
The end result was a fully capable hybrid work environment. Staff can now work from the office or remotely. During the process, we also discovered that MCCC was locked into outdated internet contracts, in some cases paying thousands of dollars each month for basic services. We helped them exit those agreements and move to more cost-effective solutions. As a result, they were able to cut their monthly IT costs in half. The project delivered both operational flexibility and significant financial savings, setting MCCC up for a more efficient and adaptable future.
